Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

The Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa allows international students who have completed at least two years of study in Australia to live, work, and study temporarily.
This visa can last between 18 months and 4 years, depending on your qualifications and circumstances.

It’s a great option if you want to gain work experience in Australia and increase your chances of qualifying for a permanent or provisional skilled visa later.

Streams under the 485 Visa

For graduates with a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an Australian institution.

2. Graduate Work Stream

For graduates with a Diploma or trade qualification related to occupations in demand in Australia.

General Eligibility Requirements (for both streams)

• Age: You must be under 50 years old when you apply.

• English: You must prove your English ability by taking an approved test or holding a passport from an English-speaking country.

• Study Requirement: You must have completed at least 2 years of study in Australia, and your qualification must have been completed within 6 months before you apply.

485 Visa Duration

The length of your Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa depends on your stream and qualification level.

Graduate Work Stream:

• Valid for 18 months from the date your visa is granted.

Post-Study Work (PSW) Stream:

The duration depends on your qualification and whether you studied in a regional area.
If you studied in Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane, your PSW visa will last for:

• 2 years – Bachelor’s Degree, Bachelor (Honours), Master’s by Coursework, or Master’s (Extended)

• 3 years – Master’s by Research

• 4 years – Doctorate (PhD)
